Bryan Fuller’s three-season Hannibal, adapted from Thomas Harris’ novels, reimagined the iconic psychiatrist-turned-serial-killer rather than retell the films. Starring Hugh Dancy as Will Graham and Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter, the series expanded the character’s lore and central traits while carving out its own visual and tonal identity.

The show takes plenty of narrative liberties: Season 1 draws from Red Dragon but omits a major plotline, Season 2 diverges further, and Season 3 adapts the Francis Dolarhyde arc with material from The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. It closes with a fictional expansion that stages a final confrontation between Will and Hannibal that doesn’t appear in the original books.

Hannibal has maintained a strong cult following since it ended, and fans, cast and crew have pushed for a return. NBC cited low viewership when cancelling the series, and Fuller has said rights issues remain, but he continues to press for a revival and says there is interest in coming back together.
