Harry Kane said he is targeting Robert Lewandowski's Bundesliga single-season scoring record after netting twice as Bayern Munich edged Borussia Dortmund 3-2 at Signal Iduna Park. The brace took Kane’s league tally to 30 goals in 24 matches, keeping him on pace to challenge Lewandowski’s 41-goal mark from 2020–21.

He also became the first Englishman to reach 45 goals in a single season since Dixie Dean in 1931–32. Kane’s successful second-half penalty matched Paul Breitner’s 1980–81 single-season spot-kick record of 10, and his fourth consecutive league double made him only the third player in Bundesliga history to score four braces in a row, joining Lothar Emmerich and Tomislav Marić.

He has reached his season-best goal count in nine fewer appearances than during his debut campaign for Bayern. Asked if he was chasing Lewandowski’s record, Kane said: "For sure. I've got to keep doing what I'm doing. There's still a lot of games to play. I need to try and be consistent over that period.
