HBO developing Arya Stark sequel reportedly set in Essos
Polygon reports HBO is in early development on a Game of Thrones sequel series that could follow Arya Stark in Essos.
The Hollywood Reporter published a profile of George R.R. Martin that mentioned the idea, saying concepts are still coalescing and nothing concrete is known — including whether Arya actor Maisie Williams would return. The outlet noted a previously considered Jon Snow sequel never materialized, and Kit Harington has said he is unlikely to go back to the role, telling Variety, "No, god no. I don’t wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that," when asked about a hypothetical return.
Martin could not officially comment on in-development projects but told The Hollywood Reporter his own book ending will differ from the show: "[The book’s ending is] going to be significantly different. Some characters who are alive in my book are going to be dead in the show, and vice versa." He also said, "I was going to kill more people," and discussed different plans for characters such as Tyrion and Sansa. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres Jan. 18 on HBO, and the next season of House of the Dragon is scheduled for sometime in mid-2026.
