HBO Could Become Home for Doctor Who
Doctor Who's future remains unsettled after a disappointing new era and the BBC’s decision to pause new episodes until a Christmas special in 2026. The broadcaster also ended its partnership with Disney, leaving the long-running series to find a new international arrangement.
BBC drama director Lindsay Salt suggested HBO could be among the partners under consideration, noting the broadcaster’s recent collaborations with HBO on projects for Richard Gadd and Michaela Coel. “We’ll wait and see how we figure it out. HBO have been great partners creatively.
There’s a lot of stuff that is changing out there,” she said, adding that the series is still part of the BBC’s future: “Ultimately it’s one of the BBC’s most treasured brands, so it’s not going anywhere.” On financing, Salt acknowledged tighter market conditions and the rise of alternative funding routes.
