HBO’s new seven-part mystery, DTF St. Louis, has climbed to #2 on the streamer’s list of most popular shows in the U.S. after only its pilot. Created by Steven Conrad, the series stars Jason Bateman and David Harbour and features Linda Cardellini, Joy Sunday, Richard Jenkins and Arlan Ruf.

The opening episode introduces Floyd Smernitch (Harbour), a sign-language interpreter with a rocky marriage, and Clark Forrest (Bateman), a weather reporter who seems to have a perfect life. The men bond over a dating app called “DTF St. Louis,” but Floyd’s body is soon found in a local pool complex and videos suggest Clark may have been involved.

Detectives learn Clark was unusually close to Floyd’s wife, Carol (Cardellini), and when their affair is exposed he becomes the prime suspect. The pilot drops Floyd’s death early, shifting the mystery from who did it to why it happened, and ends with Floyd telling Clark he knows about the affair before Floyd becomes the victim of a plot.
