Arrowhead Game Studios has acknowledged technical problems in Helldivers 2 tied to its engine, Autodesk Stingray. CEO Shams Jorjani wrote on the game's Discord that "Engines – including Unreal – yield back what you put into them" and that the studio "underinvested in our tech that we're now finally doing something about." An extended period of stacked updates and changes without corresponding work on the underlying technology produced a laundry list of problems, from persistent bugs to a ludicrous PC file size.

The team has spent much of the last year sorting out glitches and finding ways to reduce the hard drive footprint. Jorjani says progress is measurable: "We're better (our stats and sentiment confirm it) but we're still not happy and things can/will be better." He framed technical stability as an ongoing effort rather than a one-time fix.

Those hurdles have not slowed new content.
