Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie's WWII Epic Finds New Life on Starz
Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie's pairing was meant to deliver a blockbuster World War II action epic, but The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare struggled at the box office after its April 19, 2024 release. The film stars Cavill alongside Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Eiza González, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Till Schweiger, Henry Golding, Babs Olusanmokun and Cary Elwes.
The story follows a small band of maverick Allied soldiers sent behind enemy lines to sabotage Nazi submarine operations — a black-ops mission presented as crucial to bringing the US into the war. The screenplay, by Eric Johnson, Arash Amel and Paul Tamasy, is loosely based on Damien Lewis's 2014 book Churchill's Secret Warriors, which recounts the true team overseen by Churchill.
Produced for around $60 million, the film grossed just over $29 million and then moved between streaming platforms before landing a permanent home on Starz.
