Henry Thomas: Legends of the Fall Helped Shift His Career
Henry Thomas first became a star at nine as the young Elliott Taylor in Steven Spielberg’s E.T. Over more than four decades in Hollywood he has continued to build an extensive résumé and is now a regular in Mike Flanagan’s so-called Flanaverse, appearing in Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher and The Haunting of Hill House.
At Awesome Con, during a Flanaverse panel hosted by Maggie Lovitt, Thomas — joined by Carla Gugino and Katie Parker — was asked which of his films deserved more attention. He pointed to Legends of the Fall, the Edward Zwick–directed historical drama that premiered in 1994, featured Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins, and earned three Academy Award nominations with one win.
The movie marked a turning point for him. "I was 21 and I really was having a hard time getting past people thinking of me as a ten-year-old every time they saw my name anywhere," Thomas said.
