Hermès handbags have outperformed the S&P 500
Hermès handbags have outperformed the S&P 500 in recent years, with the Mini Kelly II and the Birkin posting especially strong gains. A study by luxury platform FashioNica shows the Mini Kelly II returned more than 300% from 2022 through 2025, rising from $9,200 to $36,980, while the Birkin appreciated by 285% over the same period.
The S&P 500 returned 43% in that span. Other luxury items also jumped: The Row Margaux 15 climbed 56% in three years, and the Louis Vuitton X Nike Air Force One Low rose 125%. Collectors and market professionals often treat these pieces as investments rather than apparel, sometimes keeping them stored rather than worn.
Scarcity is central to the bags' appeal.
