Highguard director shares player numbers, denies conspiracy theories
Wildlight Entertainment shut down Highguard after 37 days, declaring the game unsustainable. Studio head Chad Grenier posted performance details and thanked the players who tried the game. Grenier said slightly over two million players worldwide tried Highguard.
He said Tencent pulled its funding a couple of weeks after launch, which began a death spiral; when asked why the studio didn’t keep the game running for a year he replied, "Not enough revenue to keep anyone employed to work on it, unfortunately." Addressing post-layoff reports about limited external testing, Grenier denied that the team had blind spots.
He said the team was critical, encouraged to speak their minds, and tried to put the game and players first.
