Highguard is shutting down less than two months after launch
Highguard is shutting down, developer Wildlight Entertainment announced, with servers going offline on March 12. The free-to-play “raid shooter” failed to build a sustainable player base over its short life, Wildlight said in a statement on X, and the team asked players to jump in one more time before servers close.
The developer plans a final update later this week that will add a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression and skill trees. The game launched on Jan. 26 after being revealed at The Game Awards 2025 instead of arriving as a surprise drop. SteamDB charts show Highguard’s Steam player numbers fell rapidly: it peaked at just over 15,000 players the first weekend after launch, was barely drawing 1,000 concurrent players a month later, and was peaking at under 500 in the days before closure.
Highguard also released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
