Hoarder is a dark cleaning sim from a Darkwood co‑creator
Darkwood, the 2017 top-down survival horror praised for its atmosphere, is getting a sequel. The new entry is being developed by Ice-Pick Lodge after original developer Acid Wizard Studio went on hiatus in 2023. Meanwhile, one of Darkwood’s co-creators has turned to a very different project: a game called Hoarder.
Hoarder presents itself as a cleaning simulator with a dark edge, a bit like Powerwash Simulator but more unsettling. The trailer shows you excavating a ramshackle house packed to the ceiling with junk—digging, scrubbing, hauling, dumping, listening to strange recordings, opening doors you maybe shouldn’t, and eventually finding something in the basement.
The Steam description frames the objective simply: declutter a house abandoned by a hoarder. You begin with checklists, quest markers and clear goals, but beneath the trash lies a basement that defies geometry. As you descend, the game strips away that hand-holding.
