Honor Robot Phone showcases gimbal camera that pops out and dances
At Mobile World Congress, Honor reintroduced its Robot Phone, first unveiled at CES in January, bringing the device back to the Barcelona show floor with working features that drew a crowd. The standout is a gimbal-stabilized camera that pops out from the back, offering steady framing and portable shooting.
That mechanism supports 4K recording with a 200MP sensor and smooth-panning panoramic shots limited to 90° and 180°. The camera also enables multimodal AI functions, from real-time wardrobe suggestions to on-the-spot problem-solving, and Honor’s software gives the module a playful personality by making it nod, shake its head, or dance.
When not in use, the camera retracts into the back cover via a micro motor, a physical safeguard that matters more than an LED indicator for preventing covert recording. Some of the device’s features raise privacy and security questions, even as they add practical value.
