Housing Bill Bars Federal Reserve From Issuing CBDC Until 2030
A new US housing bill includes a provision that temporarily bans the Federal Reserve from issuing a digital dollar to consumers until 2030. The measure appears in the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, a bipartisan package focused on housing affordability that also seeks to align House and Senate priorities with the Trump administration’s efforts to curb large institutional purchases of single-family homes.
The Senate advanced the bill on a bipartisan 84-6 vote after Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott and Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren released updated text.
