How Duncan Idaho Returns in Dune: Part Three
Jason Momoa confirmed he will return to the Dune series while doing press for A Minecraft Movie, and the newly released teaser trailer offers the first glimpse of how his character re-enters the story. Momoa’s character, Duncan Idaho, died in the second half of the 2021 Dune film, prompting the actor’s quip: "If you didn't read the books, it's not my fault." The third film adapts Dune Messiah, where the Bene Tleilax use advanced biotechnology to create a new version of Duncan.
Their clones, called gholas, do not initially share the original’s memories; in the book Duncan’s ghola is named Hayt and is sent to Paul Atreides as a gift while the Tleilaxu harbor malicious intentions. The teaser also introduces Scytale, a Face Dancer who plays a key role in those plans.
In the novel Hayt is programmed to tempt Paul and even attempts to kill him before regaining Duncan’s memories, and his presence sets up further personal drama.
