How Many Countries and Athletes Competed at the 2026 Winter Olympics?

All wonderful things must come to an end, including the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Games. The Olympic Closing Ceremony gathered the athletes one more time to celebrate the adventures experienced together, and Italy passed the Olympic torch and flag to France, the next host region for the 2030 Winter Games in the French Alps.

Ninety-three countries participated in the 2026 Games. Athletes from Russia and Belarus competed as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) because their countries are banned from the International Olympic Committee due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The IOC recognizes 206 National Olympic Committees, and Georgia won its first-ever Winter Games medal.

More than 3,500 athletes competed for 195 medals across 16 Olympic disciplines and six Paralympic sports.
