How to steal and pickpocket in Crimson Desert
Stealing in Crimson Desert requires wearing a mask; without one the "steal" prompt stays greyed out and you can only pick up items that show a "take" prompt. Masks are primarily found on bandit corpses — early bandits roam the areas outside Hernand, and Chapter 2 also sends you against multiple bandit groups, so loot their bodies and equip a mask to begin stealing.
If you remain hidden while stealing, the only cost is a -5 reputation hit in that region. A short timer appears on the right-hand side of the screen, and if no one spots you before it runs out, you’re free to go. Being seen triggers a search: a red circle shows on the minimap and witnesses are marked with a red eye icon, while the search boundaries are visible in the world.
You need to leave the area without being seen by nearby guards until the timer expires, or the situation escalates. Get caught without resisting and you’ll pay a fine; try to fight or run and nearby guards will join the pursuit.
