Hugo Ekitike: 'I'm not that happy' despite 16 goals in debut season
Hugo Ekitike said he was "not that happy" with his scoring return despite netting 16 times in all competitions as Liverpool beat West Ham 5-2 at Anfield. The 23-year-old opened the scoring and set up goals for Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo, and was named Player of the Match.
"To be honest, I could score more. I’m not that happy! But it’s not only about goals, it’s assists as well – today I think I gave one or two assists. As long as I can help the team and be involved, that’s the most important. I want to win so, personally, I’m happy.
I’m looking forward to the upcoming games," he said. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward arrived on Merseyside in a £79 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer and has 16 goals in 37 appearances this season. He had gone four games without finding the net before the West Ham match and stressed he must keep working.
