Humiliation for Kinsky as Tottenham crumble early in thrashing by Atletico Madrid
Tottenham suffered a crushing 5-2 defeat at the Metropolitano, a result made worse by the manner of it and an extraordinary opening period. Igor Tudor had publicly declared survival the club’s priority, but that offered little comfort as the team imploded early and Antonin Kinsky, substituted after 17 minutes, appeared broken by his decisive role in the collapse.
The damage began almost immediately. Cristian Romero’s short goal kick left Kinsky off balance and a chain of errors led to Marcos Llorente opening the scoring; Micky van de Ven then contributed another mistake and Antoine Griezmann capitalised to make it worse.
Guglielmo Vicario was brought on and soon conceded after a Pape Sarr header deflected in, Pedro Porro made it 4-1 before half-time, and Julián Álvarez and Dominic Solanke completed the scoring.
