Hundreds of UK schools closed as Storm Goretti brings snow and ice
Independent.co reports hundreds of schools across the UK will remain closed as Storm Goretti brings snow and ice, with the Met Office issuing yellow ice warnings for much of the country. Yellow warnings cover much of the UK including Northern Ireland, and a separate yellow warning for snow and ice is in place all day on Wednesday in northern Scotland where residents have been told to expect a further 5 to 10cm of snow and temperatures as low as minus 6C in rural areas.
Travel has been affected all week, with a number of flights cancelled and some train lines disrupted, and forecaster Marco Petagna warned of slippery surfaces and untreated icy patches on roads, pavements and cycle paths. Aberdeenshire Council has declared a major incident and says there is a "good chance" some rural communities will be cut off and there may be power cuts.
