I changed 12 Android settings to extend battery life
I spent years tweaking Android phones to squeeze more battery life from budget models, and I’m sharing the most effective changes I found. The full list runs to a dozen settings you can change right away to gain hours of extra use without giving up a good phone experience.
Some of the biggest wins are simple: turn off the always-on display, enable Adaptive Battery, and use Battery Saver (or Extreme Battery Saver only when the charge is very low). Switching to dark mode helps too on OLED screens, since pixels can dim or shut off instead of relying on a backlight.
Other helpful tweaks include lowering screen brightness and shortening the sleep timeout, removing old synced accounts that refresh in the background, and disabling keyboard sounds and haptics. Cutting back app notifications and turning off “Hey Google” voice detection also reduce background activity and mic use.
