I quit Airbnb and delisted my home after hosting nightmare guests
Wendy Martin delisted her Ohio Airbnb after more than two years on the platform, citing a recent diagnosis of a mild form of leukemia and repeated bad guest experiences. She plans to rent the house to her daughter and her roommates for a lower monthly rate in exchange for less work and more peace of mind.
The property is a small single-family home built in 1910, about 1,300 square feet with three bedrooms and one-and-a-half bathrooms, set on six acres with trails and a koi pond. Located within 20 minutes of several colleges and 15 minutes from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, it drew steady bookings for family visits, military PCSes, and college events; from March through December most weekends were nearly full.
Martin described three serious problem stays, two involving the same guest. One pair of guests brought large, smelly dogs and left the house dirty after five days, and later the same guest rebooked.
