Ian Subiabre: River Plate's emerging winger attracting Inter's interest
Ian Subiabre is a winger or second striker at River Plate, born on 1 January 2007 in Comodoro Rivadavia, Patagonia. He comes from a sporting family: his maternal grandfather and uncle played locally, his paternal grandfather was an amateur boxer, and his father Martin trialled with River before helping CAI earn promotion — the club where Ian began his career.
On River's radar from the age of five, Subiabre trained in Buenos Aires in short stints because the family could not relocate, enduring bus journeys that at times lasted up to 24 hours. He also had trials in Spain with Villarreal and Levante, who chose not to sign him.
Holding both Argentine and Chilean passports, he featured for Chile’s youth teams before switching to Argentina after a call-up from Pablo Aimar. Technically gifted and quick, he idolises Lionel Messi and has been likened to Alexis Sánchez for his dribbling in tight spaces and explosive pace, though his finishing remains an area to improve.
