ICE agent wounds Venezuelan man during North Minneapolis traffic stop
People reported that a Venezuelan man was shot by an ICE agent in North Minneapolis on Wednesday, Jan. 14, during a targeted traffic stop at about 6:50 p.m. local time. The Department of Homeland Security told PEOPLE the man’s identity has not been revealed and described him as an “illegal alien” who came to the U.S.
in 2022 during Joe Biden's administration. DHS said the man allegedly attempted “to evade arrest,” fled in his vehicle and crashed into a parked car before running on foot; authorities reached him and attempted to apprehend him when, the DHS said, he began to resist and “violently assault the officer.” DHS said two other people left a nearby apartment and attacked the officer with a snow shovel and broom handle, and that the first man struck the officer with a shovel or broomstick.
The agency said the officer, “fearing for his life and safety,” fired “a defensive shot to defend his life,” striking the Venezuelan man in the leg. The three returned to an apartment and barricaded themselves; after authorities entered the residence the man was placed in an ambulance and taken to the hospital.
