Britney Spears was alone at her Thousand Oaks home in the hours before her DUI arrest and, the source said, “just one single mimosa in the afternoon.” She had posted videos of herself dancing at the house and later told authorities she had gone out simply because she “just wanted to go for a drive.” The source added that “it was a mistake.

She didn’t think she was under the influence of anything,” and emphasized that Spears “needs help” and has been working on herself since her conservatorship ended in November 2021. Family members, including her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, have been rallying around her; they now live close by and showed up for her, the source said.

California Highway Patrol arrested Spears for driving under the influence in Ventura County at around 9:28 p.m. Wednesday; she was booked at 3:02 a.m. and released at 6:07 a.m. Thursday and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
