Intel and AMD warn Chinese customers of server CPU shipment delays
Intel and AMD have notified Chinese customers of supply shortages affecting their server CPUs, with Intel chips said to carry lead times of up to six months.
Server processors are drawing increased demand alongside GPUs and memory as the AI boom continues. TSMC appears to be prioritising AI GPUs, and Intel has struggled to ramp up its own chip manufacturing capacity.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has urged TSMC to expand wafer output, highlighting how limited manufacturing capability is being stretched and leaving some markets short.
The strain on the supply chain could spill into the consumer market: server and desktop CPU production share elements of the same chain, and reports late last year suggested AMD had looked at raising desktop chip prices, though some sources disagreed.
