The aftermath of the 1-1 draw between Inter and Atalanta was tense, with the club unhappy about a pair of controversial refereeing decisions and mindful that Milan could have halved the gap to five points by beating Lazio in Rome. Inter directors Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio held a "cordial" meeting with the refereeing team, and the club says there has been an atmosphere of hostility since the derby, which it attributes to the Bastoni case.

Inter point to VAR case law, noting two similar incidents that went against them: Dumfries on Alex Sandro in October 2021 against Juventus, and Darmian on Magnani in January 2024 against Verona — in both cases a penalty was awarded. Everyone kept quiet to the press and left the stadium around 7 pm.

This is the second time Inter have complained about the referee's decisions; the first was in Naples after their 3-1 defeat in the first leg, when President Marotta spoke out.
