Inter could overhaul squad this summer as several players may leave
With many contracts expiring and others appearing to have reached the end of their cycle, Inter is preparing for a summer of change. The squad that Chivu now leads needs renewal and reinforcement after a period in which management postponed major moves for various reasons, including limited funds.
Confirmed departures already number five — Darmian, Acerbi, Sommer, de Vrij and Mkhitaryan — while the futures of Calhanoglu, Frattesi, Diouf, Dumfries, Luis Henrique and Carlos Augusto still need assessing. Past transfer windows have shown the club’s ambitions outpacing what it has been able to realise: targets such as Lookman, Koné and Jones were not secured, and late developments have scuppered other moves.
With the resources provided by Oaktree constrained, Inter must weigh each department individually and match plans to what is affordable. In goal, Sommer will not have his contract renewed and a swap for Guglielmo Vicario, who wants to return to Italy from Tottenham, appears likely; Chivu prefers an experienced goalkeeper.
