Investor 'shocked and sad' that games industry is 'demonizing' generative AI
In a theater set aside at this week's Game Developers Conference, representatives from big tech and venture capital firms spoke about their enthusiasm for generative AI.
Many attendees in the main convention halls did not share that view: a GDC survey found 52% of respondents think generative AI is bad for the games industry, while only 7% said it is a good thing.
One of the most direct expressions of the divide came from Moritz Baier-Lentz, head of gaming at Lightspeed Venture Partners. Lightspeed, which has investments in Anthropic and other AI companies, noted he was "shocked and sad" that the games industry is "demonizing" generative AI.
