Before Season 4 lands on Prime Video on March 18, Robert Kirkman and co-showrunner Simon Racioppa joined Steve Weintraub after an early screening of the first two episodes to talk Easter eggs, casting and teases for Season 5. They said Season 3’s devastation at the hands of Conquest left Mark in a dark place, and that Season 4 raises the stakes again with Grand Regent Thragg, voiced by Lee Pace, threatening to change humanity’s fate.

Kirkman mentioned a brutal moment from Season 3 that most viewers missed: a split-second foreground death of a dog he asked to push in the sound mix until the yelp was hard to ignore. Racioppa added that, if you pause on the beat, the dog’s owner looks like a throwback extra straight out of a 1990s Capcom fighting game.

When asked the perennial question of Omni-Man versus Homelander, Kirkman dismissed it as clickbait and insisted Omni-Man would win, calling him the stronger, cooler character. Racioppa agreed that the matchup has been widely debated online, but sided with Omni-Man.
