Invincible Season 4 Reveals Viltrumite Plague as a Superman Horror
The three-episode Season 4 premiere of Invincible spends much of its opening establishing where characters stand after Season 3—Mark and Eve's relationship, Ollie's progress and new threats on the horizon. Its second episode, "I'll Give You the Grand Tour," instead dedicates time to a single horrific backstory, following Omni-Man/Nolan, Alan and events on the Viltrumite home world.
That episode traces a cataclysm on Viltrum: a deliberately engineered disease called the Scourge virus sweeps the planet, killing nearly all of its near-indestructible inhabitants. Rather than an instant explosion like Krypton's fate in Superman lore, Invincible stages a gruesome pandemic—mountains of bodies, survivors forced to dispose of billions, and a haunting ring of the dead encircling the planet.
Invincible has long played as a dark mirror to Superman, and Season 4 leans into that lineage.
