Invincible VS director wants players to feel like a fucking superhero
Invincible VS director Dave Hall says the team aimed to make players feel like a superhero — ‘‘a fucking superhero,’’ he said — with fights that literally tear the world apart. Arenas destroy themselves in the background as outfits get ripped, blood drips down faces and characters drop into fatigued stances while the action plays out.
Hall calls the matches ‘‘a knock-down, drag-out fight until the death,’’ and stresses that the visual progression of a fight was as important as the mechanics. He also says the game will be approachable for players who just want fast, fun action: you can press buttons, hear characters quip, and enjoy modes that aren’t focused on competitive play.
The team confirms there will be 18 playable characters at launch, with 10 available during the open beta starting April 9: Mark Grayson (Invincible), Atom Eve, Bulletproof, Thula, Rex Splode, Battle Beast, Omni Man, Robot, Monster Girl, and Allen the Alien. Details about single-player content exist but haven’t been expanded on.
