Details reported by Nbc indicate TODAY co-anchor Craig Melvin is no longer traveling to the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics after the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie's 84-year-old mother, Nancy. Melvin had been scheduled to host Olympic Late Night from Milan from February 7 to 9; NBCUniversal has assigned NBC Sports' Ahmed Fareed to Melvin's beat.

"With his skill and versatility, Ahmed has proven time and time again he can step into any hosting role, and we’re thrilled he’s available to handle our late night coverage before heading to Los Angeles for NBA All-Star Weekend," said Molly Solomon, Executive Producer and President of NBC Olympics Production.

Fareed had previously been announced as a daytime host for the 2026 Winter Olympics. NBCUniversal also revealed that longtime Olympic correspondent Mary Carillo will replace Guthrie in the broadcast booth during coverage of the Opening Ceremony on February 6. Guthrie's mom, Nancy, was reported missing on February 1; it is now believed a possible abduction occurred.
