Steven Spielberg's upcoming Disclosure Day has been kept deliberately mysterious, but the trailer has offered a few clear signals: UFOs, hints of government cover-ups, scenes suggesting mind control and characters projecting their presence into others. Spielberg wrote the story and regular collaborator David Koepp scripted the film, which stars Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo and Wyatt Russell.

It marks Spielberg's return to high-concept science fiction since Ready Player One in 2018. Some viewers noticed imagery that echoes Close Encounters of the Third Kind — a ship breaking through clouds, a white farmhouse and odd animal behavior — and have suggested Disclosure Day could secretly function as a follow-up.

The similarities in visual beats and the fact Spielberg also wrote Close Encounters have only fueled that line of thinking, though the trailer's nods could equally be the director revisiting familiar aesthetics.
