A bombing that killed seven people and wounded more than a dozen tore through a noodle restaurant in central Kabul on Monday, Afghan officials said, and the attack was claimed by the Islamic State wing in Afghanistan. Abdul Mateen Qani, a spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, told The New York Times that seven people had been killed, including a Chinese citizen, and said the attack was carried out by a single attacker from the Islamic State Khorasan Province, or ISIS-K.

The group released a statement through its media wing saying a lone attacker detonated an explosive vest about 30 minutes after entering the busy restaurant. Emergency, an Italian nonprofit medical group operating in Kabul, said it had received 20 people at its surgical center, including seven who were dead on arrival, and that a child was among the dead.

The blast struck a street lined with shops selling flowers, antiquities and rugs, and security forces heavily guarded the area on Tuesday as residents cleaned broken glass and businesses reopened with blood stains still visible on some windows. The attack comes amid growing Chinese concerns about security in Afghanistan.
