Last week Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told shareholders the company had no current plans to raise the price of the $449.99 Switch 2, but this week the company is said to be weighing not just whether but when to enact a price hike. In a Q&A investor call Furukawa addressed the RAM crisis, noting it threatened many industries that use computer chips and saying the supply issues did not meaningfully affect profitability last year nor were expected to change much in the latest quarter.

A translation by VGC attributes his earlier decision to a reluctance to follow short-term trends, but he warned that future price volatility could prompt a revisit of the pricing strategy. Bloomberg reports Nintendo is contemplating raising the Switch 2’s price in 2026.

The console, which currently retails for $449.99, uses chips described as less capable than contemporaries, which would mean charging more for hardware some see as already outdated.
