Jack McGlynn leans on rehab and a World Cup lock screen in 2026 push
According to Goal, in Fort Lauderdale at MLS Media Tour, 22‑year‑old USMNT and Houston Dynamo midfielder Jack McGlynn says a 2026 FIFA World Cup lock screen on his phone and his recovery from a significant foot injury and surgery have sharpened his mindset as he fights for a World Cup spot.
McGlynn was sidelined in September, just weeks after the USMNT's first post‑Gold Cup camp, and missed the final months of 2025 while undergoing surgery, rehab and periods on a knee scooter. He watched the national team go unbeaten in a run that followed his last appearance and saw Houston’s playoff hopes fade while he was sidelined, a period he described as a helpless feeling he does not want to relive.
To stay sharp while his body healed, McGlynn turned to game film, crossword puzzles introduced by his brother, and even Call of Duty, all while reflecting on a breakout 2025 that included 12 USMNT caps, goals against Turkey and Venezuela, and a February move from the Philadelphia Union to Houston.
Now fit again and having added muscle over the winter, McGlynn faces a short runway: Houston open the MLS season on Feb. 21 against the Chicago Fire, and a few weeks later the USMNT convenes for a final camp before manager Mauricio Pochettino begins assembling his World Cup roster. McGlynn says helping Houston will boost his chances and that he feels ready to show an improved version of himself.
