Jackbox to publish surreal indie My Arms Are Longer Now
Jackbox Games is moving into indie publishing with My Arms Are Longer Now, a surreal puzzle title from Toot Games about a very long arm that commits petty crimes. The game, created by Matthew Jackson and Millie Holten from Melbourne, will be the studio’s first indie release as it looks to share its recent good fortune.
Players control a snake-like arm through short vignettes, completing objectives by stealing items and causing comic mischief. In one train level the arm drags a bicycle away from a passenger, takes a dog in its carrier and then a woman’s briefcase, while later scenes escalate into ruining a child’s birthday party.
The humor draws on sketch-comedy instincts and idiosyncratic voice acting, and the developers aimed for a tight three-hour runtime. Jackson said that having comedians involved across design, production and programming was essential to getting the joke density and slapstick timing right.
