Jalen Brunson calls players-only meeting after Knicks' blowout loss
Cbssports reports that following Monday night's 114-97 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at Madison Square Garden, star guard Jalen Brunson called for a players-only meeting, according to ESPN.
The defeat — the ninth in New York's last 11 games — came against a Mavericks squad that had seven players on the injury list, and fans booed as the Knicks were routed. Coach Mike Brown said after the game, "I'm OK with the boos. If we're playing crappy, boo. If I was in the stands, I'd probably boo, too. You pay hard money to come to the game." Teammate Josh Hart urged "some soul searching," calling the stretch "embarrassing basketball" and the defense "abysmal."
Brunson echoed Hart, saying the soul searching "should've started a couple weeks ago" and that "we got to start tomorrow. We've got to figure this out fast," the report said. At 25-18 and third in the Eastern Conference, the team faces a Feb. 5 trade deadline that the report suggested could prompt roster moves if the slide continues.
