James Trafford could leave Manchester City after Donnarumma arrival
James Trafford said he did not expect Manchester City to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma after he returned from Burnley last summer. Trafford rejoined City on 31 July in a deal worth £31m, and Pep Guardiola later told the club executive that he wanted Donnarumma. The Italian joined on 2 September from Paris Saint-Germain for £26m and became Guardiola’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Trafford started City’s opening three Premier League games in August but has not started in the competition since; his other eight appearances this season have come in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and the Champions League. He joined the club aged 12 in 2015. After City’s 2-0 win over Salford in the FA Cup fourth round he said: "Yeah, it’s been good.
I didn’t expect the situation [with Donnarumma] to happen but it happened, so just get on with it. So it’s happened so I work very hard every day and see what happens, give it my best shot." Before Donnarumma joined, Trafford said he was not told he would be No 1.
