Jane Fonda is returning to the big screen in The Correspondent after Lionsgate won a seven‑studio bidding war for the rights to Virginia Evans' novel. Cat Vasko will adapt the book for the screen, and Fonda will both star and produce alongside Hidden Pictures' Todd Lieberman.

Lionsgate has enjoyed a strong year with releases including the Den of Thieves sequel, an adaptation of The Long Walk, and Paul Feig’s The Housemaid, which earned $396 million worldwide. The studio has also faced early 2026 setbacks with Greenland 2: Migration and The Strangers — Chapter 3, and is now looking to future releases built around a well‑known novel and a high‑profile lead.

In The Correspondent, Fonda will play Sybil Van Antwerp, a sharp‑witted, retired lawyer who keeps order in her life through letters. When an unexpected letter from her past resurfaces, she must confront a long‑buried chapter of grief, regret and unresolved guilt.
