Janell Shirtcliff honors Eric Dane after ALS battle

Janell Shirtcliff honored the late actor with a series of Instagram Stories after his death. She opened the posts with a photo of Dane smiling while looking down at her through dark shades as they sat under a palm tree. She followed with a snap of Dane planting a kiss on her head as they posed on steps, the couple notably appearing to wear similar Gucci loafers.

Other posts showed him in good spirits with Shirtcliff and others. In the final memory she shared a clip of Dane posing while her daughter — whose name has not been publicly revealed — tried to direct him. Shirtcliff and Dane dated on and off for several years before his death.

Their relationship was first reported last June, shortly after Dane revealed he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; an insider said they had been "in an on-and-off relationship for over three years" and that "Eric asked Janell to be there for him, and she wanted to show up for him." Dane died on Thursday at age 53 following a brief battle with ALS.
