Jason Momoa’s 91-Minute Indie Neo-Western Rides Onto Starz

Road to Paloma, Jason Momoa’s 91-minute indie neo-Western, will stream on Starz from March 1 to March 31. Released in 2014, the film marked Momoa’s directorial debut. Momoa plays a Native American drifter on a quest to spread his mother’s ashes across the desert.

Critics were divided: the film drew praise for its naturalistic cinematography and meditative tone but was faulted for a predictable narrative and a by-the-numbers revenge plot. It holds a 54% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and reviews noted its throwback road-movie feel and "strong acting." The cast includes Lisa Bonet, Sarah Shahi, Wes Studi and Lance Henricksen.

The Numbers lists no box-office figures for the release, though it earned roughly $1.3 million in domestic physical media sales. Momoa had a supporting role on the first season of Game of Thrones before debuting as Aquaman, and he has since shown an interest in filmmaking—he co-wrote the Apple TV series Chief of War last year.
