Jason Momoa to Star in Sony's Helldivers Movie
Jason Momoa will headline Sony's PlayStation-backed Helldivers movie, which is set to open on November 10, 2027, with Justin Lin directing. Momoa, known for Aquaman and the Minecraft movie, has appeared in many box office blockbusters but has yet to prove if he is as billable as the franchises he joins.
The film adapts Arrowhead Game Studios’ sci-fi parody of intergalactic war, loosely inspired by Starship Troopers, and shares some of the over-the-top energy of the Fast & Furious films Lin has worked on. Translating the hit PS5 and PC extraction shooter’s tone—its straightfaced goofiness, fascist propaganda motifs and rag-dolling space soldiers—into a successful theatrical movie will be a challenge.
Momoa and Lin previously collaborated on Fast X, which was critically panned but did fine at the box office.
