Jason Momoa returns as Hayt in Dune 3
Legendary Entertainment released character posters for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 3 on March 16 to tease the film’s first trailer, due on TikTok at noon ET on March 17. The images show Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya) in rough shape, while Alia—the baby Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) was pregnant with in Dune 2—is now grown and played by Anya Taylor-Joy.
The biggest surprise is Jason Momoa’s return as Hayt. Momoa originally played the Atreides swordmaster Duncan Idaho in Dune; that Duncan died heroically helping Paul and Jessica escape. Hayt, however, is not the same man. Hayt comes from Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, the 1969 sequel set 12 years after Dune.
In that story, conspirators present Paul with a ghola—a clone of his former mentor Duncan Idaho—intended to weaken him. The artificial being violates Fremen taboos and is implanted with commands by its creators, costing Paul some of his support.
