Jason Statham Sequel 'Mechanic: Resurrection' Climbs Tubi's Free Charts
Mechanic: Resurrection, the 2016 follow-up starring Jason Statham, has reappeared in the top 10 on free streaming platform Tubi. The film finds Statham’s Arthur Bishop living undercover in Brazil until an old enemy kidnaps the woman he loves (Jessica Alba), forcing Bishop to eliminate three impossible targets while making each death look like an accident.
Dennis Gansel directed, with a screenplay credit for Philip Shelby and Tony Mosher, and the cast includes Tommy Lee Jones and Michelle Yeoh. Critics were mostly unmoved on release, leaving the sequel at 30% on Rotten Tomatoes and 40% on the Popcornmeter, but audiences still turned out: the film grossed $125 million worldwide against a $40 million budget, surpassing the predecessor’s $76.3 million.
Director Simon West has said he’d like to work with Statham again, noting they enjoy collaborating and would do another project if the right idea comes along. Statham remains a steady presence in action cinema and on streaming.
