Jason Statham’s small-town thriller 'Homefront' resurfaces on Netflix
A 2013 action thriller called Homefront jumped to number three on Netflix's top 10 list this weekend. The film holds a 42 percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 61 percent audience score, suggesting mixed reviews but clear crowd-pleasing appeal. The cast includes Jason Statham, Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth and James Franco, who plays a small-time meth lord named Gator.
Sylvester Stallone wrote Homefront and initially imagined it as a vehicle for himself, possibly in a Rambo-like mode, before handing the script to Statham. The movie shares Rambo: Last Blood’s “rampage against drug dealers” setup, though it lacks that film’s off-putting grudge against Mexico.
Based on Chuck Logan’s novel, Homefront follows Phil Broker, a retired DEA agent who moves to a small town with his daughter after the son of a meth dealer is killed during a raid.
