Jason Statham Stole the Show in a $235 Million Spy Movie
Having recently delivered one of his biggest bombs with Shelter, Jason Statham needs a quick rebound. The Beekeeper 2 might help, but it remains several months away, so his back catalog on home video has taken on extra importance. One overlooked hit is heading to the Starz streaming service in March, where it will remain for exactly a month.
Released in 2015, Spy marked a departure for Statham as he flexed his comedic chops under Paul Feig and opposite Melissa McCarthy; the film also featured Jude Law and Rose Byrne. It stands as one of his biggest non-franchise successes, grossing $235 million worldwide against a reported $65 million budget and only recently being replaced as Feig’s top-grossing film by The Housemaid.
Spy is an action-comedy in which Statham partners with a desk-bound CIA officer, played by McCarthy, on a mission to prevent a nuclear attack. The movie received highly positive reviews and sits at a "Certified Fresh" 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
