Jason Statham's 92%‑rated 'The Beekeeper' arrives on Hulu April 1
The Beekeeper, released Jan. 12, 2024, stars Jason Statham as Adam Clay, a retired assassin who returns to avenge the death of someone close to him after the son of a billionaire is responsible. Fans propelled the film to a 92% Verified Hot score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it Statham's third-highest rated movie behind Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Directed by David Ayer and written by Kurt Wimmer, the cast includes Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad and Jeremy Irons. The beekeeper angle required Statham to learn real beekeeping for the role; Ayer said the bees used on set were real and that he himself was stung while operating the camera.
The film grossed $162 million at the box office against a $40 million budget and will stream on Hulu beginning April 1. A sequel entered development in early 2025 with Timo Tjahjanto set to direct; production has finished and the follow-up is slated for Jan. 15, 2027.
