Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance are expecting a fourth child
Businessinsider reports that Second Lady Usha Vance and Vice President JD Vance announced in January 2026 that they are expecting their fourth child, a son due in July, making Usha Vance the first second lady in US history to be pregnant while in office.
The couple met as Yale Law students and wed in 2014 with both Christian and Hindu ceremonies. Usha Vance is a former litigator who clerked for Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts and worked at Munger, Tolles & Olson before leaving the firm when Trump chose JD Vance as his running mate. JD Vance is a former Ohio senator, Marine veteran and author of Hillbilly Elegy; he converted to Catholicism in 2019, according to The American Conservative. As vice president and second lady they have traveled together, including trips to France and Germany in February 2025 and a visit to the US Pituffik Space Base in Greenland in March 2025, after a planned solo Usha visit to Greenland was scaled back amid diplomatic pushback.
The Vances have three children — Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel — and announced the fourth child in January 2026. Beyond the July due date, the reporting does not provide further details about their family plans; Usha Vance has previously appeared publicly on the campaign trail, spoke at the Republican National Convention, and held the Bible at the 2025 inauguration.
